The concepts of fad and fashion are amazingly interwoven together. Fashion means something that is constantly present. Furthermore, fashion also keeps transforming and adjusting to the ever changing society and times. However, a fad refers to a form of fashion that only stays for short period. Instead of changing, a fad simply vanishes after some time or just fades away. This means when a certain fad fades away, it is replaced by another one.

The term ‘fashionable’ is normally given to individuals who stay abreast with the current fashion and change it so as to fit their style. In contrast, a fad refers to a unique form of fashion that is present in a certain time. Even though it may stay for a short time, everybody usually wants to adhere to it. Most people follow a certain form of fashion that is generally short lived, which is referred to as a fad.

The two are present in most areas of life, which includes music, accessories and dance among many others. In general, fashion is essentially linked to accessories, clothes and footwear. However, fads are usually linked to numerous thinks such as a specific behavior, dance move, clothing or food. Fads arise from the drive to become part of popular groups and thus it is collectively followed.

Fads and fashion are shown to have a great effect on the society. For instance, hippies begun like a fad as people started to pursue the movement of rebelling against the acceptable norms in society and belonging to a specific group that was rebelling against societal norms. This fad had a great effect on the whole society for a long time and it changed the attitude of people. However, since it was a fad, hippies faded away eventually.

In contrast, fashion evolves and does not fade away. Clothes will always be present while humans exist. However, they keep evolving every day as they adapt to the changes based on new textiles and also comfort.
