SMS, also called texting, is a premium service that is offered by most mobile companies aside from simply making calls. In general, texting is limited to sending only text messages from one mobile to another through the service provider. MMS is far more advanced than SMS as you can also include pictures in your message. Both MMS and SMS have grown to become the modern ways of immediate contact, however SMS scores more on this.
1. Cost
Sending an SMS is cheaper in contrast with sending an MMS. Nevertheless, texts are limited to approximately 160 characters based on the built in specs of your device. Some phones have better SMS sending capabilities. Whereas, SMS demands basic texting skills, MMS has more needs that includes, video saving, uploading.
2. Compatibility
While all phones can receive and send texts, not all phones can send or even receive an MMS. As such, your phone should have MMS support to enable it receive and send MMS files. Hence, it would be better to send an SMS since you will be certain the person you are sending it to is going to receive it.
3. Function
Many people still like to send quick and short texts using SMS. For instance, if you want to inform your friend or colleague that you are going to be late for a meeting, a short SMS is sufficient. However, MMS is the best option for sharing fun items and entertainment. Moreover, SMS has simple smileys that can be used to express emotion. The MMS smileys offer the benefit of being more enhanced. They even integrate movement and cartoons into them.
SMS has evolved over the years in the lingo used with many phone users using short forms of words so as to make their messages shorter. In fact, experts believe that it has caused young people to have bad grammar.
