While Provigil promotes wakefulness, it is unclear how it actually works. Some doctors believe that it works through altering the neurotransmitters within the brain.

Provigil should not be ingested if the user has an allergy to its constituents. Additionally, those who develop rashes after consuming it should also avoid it. Pregnant and breast feeding women are advised to avoid using Provigil. Some of the adverse effects that this medication produces includes things like back pain, nausea, trouble sleeping, dizziness and stuffy nose.

In conclusion, both drugs are produced by the same pharmaceutical company, but Provigil was the first drug to be produced among the two. However, there are some doctors who believe that Nuvigil drug is a good improvement of Provigil as it has fewer side effects.
