Love and also like are most likely two terms that continue to be used interchangeably. It is therefore commonplace to see a couple saying they like one another at one time and then later, they love each other. Because of the constant interchanging, generally many people equate the two terms to be the same thing. Nevertheless, the two are quite different from each other as this article will prove.
1. Scope of meaning
Although both love and like pertain to strong positive perceptions and feelings towards places, people or objects, like generally has a broader meaning and it has a generic expression. Most of the time, like is the term used for comparing two unique, but similar people or objects. In contrast, love is very narrow and normally involves deep affection towards an object, place or a certain person. In this regard, an individual who loves the other person does not find herself or himself comparing between any similar individuals.
2. Time
The foundation of liking someone or something can be somewhat superficial. As such, it is normally felt in a short amount of time. In contrast, love requires an extensive time period with a subject. That is why love is said to develop over longer periods of time, as compared to liking. When considering two individuals, love generally develops following spending a significant time period with a certain person.
3. Degree of intimacy
As an individual can like the other individual very quickly, such a relationship is regarded as shallow and new. As such, an individual who likes another person can quickly change their mind in a short time period, without any ill feelings or regret. In comparison, since there is lots of investment placed when two individuals are in love, the relationship is normally quite deep. This means when the relationship is terminated, the parting is normally very painful.
Using the above differences, you can now communicate your feelings effectively to other people.
