Who would not love to have a house with flooring made of wood? It looks beautifully natural, timeless, and warm under the feet. But the fact is, the price of hardwood is too expensive for some people, which is why a cheaper alternative (that is laminated wood) is quite catching the interest of numerous homeowners nowadays.
Comparing the two, hardwood flooring is quite expensive mainly because it is harvested from trees and that the prices depend on how exotic the tree is. Laminate wood, in contrast, is made out of composite wood that is pressed together under high temperatures. And when it comes to installation, hardwood installation costs twice as much as laminate wood installation.
In terms of durability, hardwood flooring can get easily scratched, show wear and tear, and damaged by too much moisture unlike laminate wood that are said to be more resilient to wear and tear, scratch resistant, and long-lasting since it is made out of pressed wood. But, hardwood flooring gives out an authentic wood magnificence as compared to laminated wood flooring that may look artificial and not so visually attractive especially when availing the cheaper brands.
In terms of repair, hardwood flooring can be easily restored by means of sanding and polishing its blemishes whereas in laminated wood flooring, repair is quite poor. Although damaged laminated woods can be replaced, due to aging and effects of sunlight, finding the right color that matches your original flooring may be hard to do thus making it a bit problematic. Other option would be to replace the whole flooring with new ones which will only add to the expense.
Knowing all these, you can now decide which kind of flooring you would like to place into your home. It is much better to analyze your options first before choosing a hardwood or laminate flooring which has their own pros and cons depending on one’s budget, durability, repair, and over-all appearance.
