DVDs and CDs are optical mediums that were created for storing digital data. They were created for replacing traditional cassette tapes. However, there are several differences between DVD and CD that will be listed here below.
1. Size
A standard compact disc can store approximately 700MB worth of data. This is equal to a video of 60 minutes and quality audio of 80 minutes. The DVD is similar to the CD but it has greater data capacities. The least amount of data that a DVD can hold is 4.7GB and there are others that even hold 17GB. This high storage capacity of a DVD allows it store lots of information, besides form movies and songs as compared to a CD.
2. Content
The higher capacity of a DVD has lots of benefit when it comes to content. In fact, software and video programs that previously required two CDs are now placed in one DVD. Furthermore, DVDs have enabled movie makers and producers to add extra bonus materials in the DVD editions of their movies. Things like outtakes, behind the scenes videos can now be seen DVDs.
3. Hardware
DVD players offer the great benefit of playing any kind of CDs, whereas CD players do not have the capability of playing DVDs. This kind of compatibility has enabled many music albums and other content to be produced in CDs, rather than DVDs.
