Our ecosystem is composed of biotic and abiotic factors. Without each, there will be an imbalance in the environment. They may differ from each other but then both of them are important in the existence of our ecological unit. Moreover, both ecosystems are dependent on one another in terms of growth and production.

Biotic is a term that refers to living things while abiotic to nonliving things. A thing which can move, reproduce, grow, produce energy is biotic. Examples of which are animals and plants. Those that can’t move, can’t breathe, and can’t perform metabolism are abiotic. Examples of which are soil, sun, temperature, water.

Abiotic components, though nonliving things, are responsible for the survival of biotic components. Insects, plants, trees, animals could not live and grow without the heat and energy from the sun, the moisture of water, the blow of the wind, etc.

Another difference of abiotic and biotic is the activity that is happening in each ecosystem. For biotic, there is predation and mutation which allows for the growth of each living component. In abiotic ecosystem, there is cycling of nutrients, production of energy which will be used up by biotic ecosystem for survival.

Biotic components depend largely on abiotic factors. Once living things thrive well in a certain environment, it simply shows that there is enough supply of abiotic components. A certain species of plant can grow in a n environment where there is abundant water, heat, and air. However, if abiotic factors could not help in the sustainability of biotic components, then there will be extinction of migration that will occur.

Biotic and abiotic components have difference roles in the environment but then they are still dependent on each another. These two components must always work together to sustain our ecosystem and to flourish our life.
