There are a lot of species of fishes seen in different bodies of water which may have the same but also unique and distinct features. The major examples of these fishes are the white bass and the striped bass. Since both of these fishes are from the Bass family, they have a close relation to each other and can be found in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Georgia. In Florida, a hybrid of both these fishes is seen and is called the sunshine bass.

The white bass is found in all rivers of the United States. Its scientific name is Morone chrysops. It takes any bait they see on the spot and is considered a social fish. The body of the white bass is silver colored with broken stripes and their dorsal fins are short and are close to one another. Having a very prominent lower jaw is one of its distinct features. They can weigh as much as six pounds and can grow anywhere in between 2-3 feet in length. They only live in freshwater and mainly eat small fishes and crustaceans.

The striped bass are considered migratory fishes and are seen in the Pacific and Atlantic shore of the United States. It is also known as the rock fish and has a scientific name which is Morone saxatilis. Its body longer than the white bass and is also silver colored and distinct because of 7 long dark black stripes that run along with it. Also their dorsal fins have about 10 rays each and are separate from each other. They also eat small fishes and live in freshwater initially but migrate to salt water when they become an adult.
