Difference between Water and Fat Soluble Vitamins

The body requires lots of vitamins so as to remain strong and healthy. A strong mind and body indicates that people are consuming the adequate amounts of essential compounds and nutrients for optimal cell function. Vitamins can be obtained from most nutritious meals that we consume.

1. Water soluble vitamins

As its name suggests, these forms of vitamins are quickly dissolved once they are placed in water. Almost three quarters of the body is made up of water. Hence, it is healthy to ingest a sizeable amount of such vitamins so as to boost the immune function and maintain good overall health. Examples of vitamins contained within this particular group include vitamin C and also the B vitamins. These vitamins provide the benefit of being quickly used up once ingested. Since the body cannot store such vitamins, it is imperative that we consume nutritious foods so as to restock them.

2. Fat soluble vitamins

These vitamins are the ones that are dissolved from fat before they are then used up inside the body. Examples of such vitamins include vitamins A, K, E and D. Such vitamins can only be extracted after they are placed in close contact with fats. After extraction, these vitamins enter the bloodstream till they reach the target cells. Excess amounts of such vitamins get stored inside the liver. This means they do not need to be ingested every day. Keep in mind that all of these vitamins have their own unique functions in body cells.

In short, vitamins are the organic compounds that serve as nutrients and they help to keep the body healthy. Water soluble vitamins should be taken daily and they are quickly dissolved following exposure to water. In contrast, fat soluble vitamins normally get stored inside the liver and thus should not be necessarily taken every day.
