Answer #1
Transport chairs and wheelchairs are two popular ambulatory devices. People who have leg disabilities and cannot move around without assistance normally use a wheelchair. There are 2 kinds of wheelchairs, one is called transport chair, while the other is simply the standard one. Even though both do the same function, there are some differences that should be noted before choosing among the two option s.
1. Wheelchair
Wheelchairs are the widely used ambulatory devices used by people who have recently become weak following a surgery or those who have a disability that affects their movement. With a little support, patients easily sit on the wheelchair and then use their two hands to move the wheelchair forward. Steel is used to make wheelchairs. This makes it sturdy and also simple to operate. The whole device normally weighs approximately 35 pounds.
2. Transport chair
Transport chairs are highly specialized devices that are designed to offer assistance to individuals who have leg problems, but lack the strength of using normal wheelchairs. In effect, these devices are more compact and lighter as compared to the normal wheelchairs. That is why transport chairs are pushed by other people when the patients seats on them.
The greatest difference between these two devices is that transport chairs require assistance for moving forward, while wheelchairs do not. One benefit of using transport chairs when moving is that they are smaller and lightweight and thus they can be carried along when going on a trip or holiday. However, wheelchairs are more useful for those with sufficient strength in their hands to move forward without any help. In this regard, the wheelchair offers more freedom. Whereas, transport chairs are easily customizable since a patient can alter the arm length as well as its overall style, the same is impossible in wheelchairs.
