Science has been one of the most interesting subjects, which is deemed to be equally vital in understanding the world and its components. Of the many branches and subtopics that such broad topics generally delves into, from living to non-living entities, there are aspects and areas which are applied in almost all the processes contained within the study of science. Over the years, it has been proven that science comes hand in hand with mathematics, which ensures that concepts requiring mathematical annotations and operations are rightfully done, in relation to science. Two most commonly encountered subjects that involve science and mathematics are speed and velocity.

Most people find no disparity between the two but in real contexts such terms bear subtle divergences in definitions and meaning. For one, speed and velocity differ in the natural definition that each term bears. While speed is basically defined as the rate at which a significant measure of distance is being covered over a certain period of time, velocity is described as the measurement of speed along with the measurement or consideration of the direction that objects are directed at.

In this light, such concepts can further be differentiated in the sense that speed focuses only on obtaining how fast an object go with respect to distance and time whereas velocity considers where the object is intentionally heading.

Apart from that, speed differs from velocity in terms of the classification each is categorized under. With the facts that have been stipulated, speed was identified to be of a scalar type while velocity is under the vector quantity category.

While many individuals still find such concepts to be confounding, such topics are vital in understanding both science and mathematics, as they are deemed to be among the recognized basic knowledge.
