Sanskrit is an ancient language that flourished for decades in India but is not popular due to changing times. On the other hand, Pali is an ancient dialect that was widely used by the Buddhist. However, the Sanskrit dialect was spoken earlier than Pali.
Sanskrit as a language was considered vogue even in the early times. It had tremendous influence on both literature and religion. Additionally, many people believed it had an aspect of cultural tradition. Also known as Indo-Aryan language, Sanskrit acted as a liturgical dialect of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
Pali languages belong to the Prakrit language commonly known as middle Indo-Aryan dialect. Although the Sanskrit and Pali dialect are related to each other, Pali dialect is not a progeny of the latter. The Pali dialect is considered an all rounded dialect having several different languages and is based on the dialect used by Buddhist, which is believed to be of Magadhi origin. Scholars are however divided on the starting point of the dialect.
When it comes to comparing the two dialects, most people say that Pali is simple to learn. Both the Pali and Sanskrit share similar vocabulary and grammar. Pali however uses simplified grammar than Sanskrit dialect.
