Dancing is one form of art that employs the use of the hands, feet and the body in conjunction with a musical rhythm. Over the years, a variety of dances have been established, which are greatly dependent on the country to which they have originated. Among the various existing countries, there exist an array of different dances that can evidently be seen as part of their culture, tradition and socializations. While there are modern types of dances that have emerged, old forms remain to be recognized. Two of which are the Salsa and the Mambo.

Famous among the countries located in the Southwestern regions of the globe, salsa and mambo are two types of dance that are classified as ballroom dancing. While some find no disparity between the two, these two share differences that make them distinct from one another.

For one, Salsa differs from Mambo in the sense that the former obtains no formal techniques and patterns on how to perform Salsa whereas Mambo is well incorporated with techniques, patterns and frames that are formally taught and learned.

In such light, these two can be further differentiated by the fact that Salsa is more often recognized to be one form of street dancing while Mambo is much acclaimed as one type of ballroom dancing.

Salsa and Mambo also differ in the message they impart as they are danced. Dancing Salsa often conveys a message of beauty in freedom in expression and character while Mambo is more confined to following certain techniques, expressing the value of order, formality and socially accepted and established norms.

While these dances greatly involve interesting historical accounts, Salsa and Mambo remain to provide entertainment as not all individuals have the gift and talent of performing such challenging kinds of dances.
