Shelter is one of the basic needs of a human being, and the term “home” comes to mind. A home is a place where residents or social units can take refuge in it. There are different facilities in a basic modern household which can fulfill and improve other basic needs, like a sanitary facility such as a bathroom and a facility for cooking and food preparation. Architects for houses can also design other rooms and facilities to meet the other needs of the home residents, such as a workshop and a garage. A home also affects the psychological impact of its residents as well as how other people view the residents of the home. It can influence their behavior, emotions, and other factors that can affect the overall mental health of the residents. Several types of houses are used by people across the world. Some of these types might look unconventional like mobile homes, which are homes that can be moved around, and modular homes, a type of building which relies on modules or sections that can be assembled together to form the home.

Mobile homes are prefabricated. They are built in factories instead of being built on site. They are also called house trailers and, in some countries, they are called caravans. These homes are built on a chassis with wheels and tires for travel. The usual means of transporting the home is by the use of tractor-trailers, a type of vehicle that can tow the house from one place to the next. Smaller units, like the eight-foot wide versions, can be transported with a car. Mobile homes are different from travel trailers. Travel trailers are used for temporary homes and they can also act as vacation homes, while a mobile home are intended for a longer stay. The two of them differ in size and furnishings, with the mobile home having a larger space for the living areas.

The idea of mobile homes started in earlier years of motorized travel and it was based from the travel trailer. These homes were marketed as a cheaper form of housing that is configured for a long period of time; they are to be set up and sometimes placed with masonry foundation. Around 1950s, these units increased in width and were introduced along with a new term, “mobile home”.

Modular homes are also prefabricated houses, but they are different from mobile homes because of the absence of a frame or axles, they are also transported by flat-bed trucks. This type of home is built with multiple sections or modules to be delivered on a site of use. The sections are then assembled on site to form a residential building by the use of cranes or trucks. The modules used for the home is assembled in an off-site facility, which is also an advantage because it is independent of weather conditions, meaning it can avoid damaging the building material. This home can be used for temporary or permanent stay; examples of these uses are construction camps and military housings. A modular home is also a solution for housing needs in remote areas where other types of constructions can’t be used. Other advantages of modular homes is the speed of the construction, being modular, it allows the building of the facility and the site work to be completed at the same time.
