Difference between Lymph and Blood

Answer #1

Most of us are familiar with blood, while only a few know about lymph. Blood is normally pumped by the strong heart muscles and this helps circulate it all over the body. In contrast, lymph flows using a passive technique as it is normally pushed around the body by common body movements.

1. Function

The blood carries and transports oxygen all over the body as it is an essential compound that is necessary for healthy functioning. It also helps in transport certain nutrients to specific body parts. In contrast, lymph is mainly used for removing waste products released from tissues.

2. Direction of flow

Blood usually flows in one continuous cycle that is essentially in shape of a circle. Blood that is low on oxygen flows back into the heart where it is replenished with fresh oxygen. The replenished and oxygen-rich blood is then channeled all through the body. Nevertheless, lymph flows using a completely different way. It only uses one direction once it has entered the vessels from the tissues.

3. Constituents

Lymph has different constituents than those of blood. The lymph passed through the body’s cardiovascular system appears like a clear or milky white liquid. In contrast, blood is made up of plasma, RBCs, WBCs and platelets.

4. Purification

The purification of blood takes places in the two kidneys. Here, all the waste is absorbed along with excess liquids. After this, important liquids are immediately returned back into the cardio system. In contrast, lymph is actually self sufficient. There are several lymph nodes positioned across the body for removing waste and killing pathogens.

Finally, any injury found on the skin causes blood to come out. Hence, blood is something visible. In contrast, it is hard to see any damage done to lymph, unless you get confronted with swollen or inflamed lymph nodes.
