There are various emotions that are involved in human relationships. There are many grey areas that are yet to be clearly defined. For instance, it is quite hard to tell apart like and love. Learning these differences can allow people to better express their feelings.
Let us first consider the relationship that exists between a child and her mother. Generally, the child cannot state: ‘I like my mother. This would be wrong and the best statement to use is to state: ‘I love my mother.’ In this context, the distinction between the two terms is that love is the emotion that is basically unconditional. Children are born loving their parents, thus the emotion of love is embedded deeply in them.
Like is much more associated with romance as compared to paternal love. Many women and also men who are currently in somewhat new relationships are normally hesitant when it comes to voicing their feelings. As such, rather than saying that their love their partners, they tell them that they really like them.
In the intricate world of relationships and dating, quickly admitting your feelings of love to your partner may scare that person away. This is because love is seen to display willingness for a long commitment. Therefore, admitting love may be viewed like a sign that the courtship or friendship has grown into something more serious, which could eventually result in marriage.
Liking someone essentially means that you are delighted in spending time together with a certain person. In contrast, loving someone basically shows that you cannot absolutely bear living without that particular person. Liking only gives the individual a feeling of appreciation, while loving is considered much deeper.
The two terms are thereby separated by the degree of emotion towards someone. Love involves complex and deep emotions, whereas like only gives a fluttery and warm feeling that is mostly superficial.
