In the complex world of business , trade and commerce, it is important for certain departments and offices to be strongly grounded for the institution to be constantly in profitable operation. Apart from the establishment of departments, there are also techniques and processes that need to be employed for the business to boom and bloom consistently. While logistics is considered as one of the many departments, supply chain management is one technique for maintaining a business and keeping it at a highly satisfactory level.
Logistics can be defined as one department responsible for organizing the products and services being offered by one company or establishment. Supply chain management, on the other hand, is more concerned with keeping supplies intact and ensuring that demands are adequately met. This is just one of the differences between the two.
Another identified difference between logistics and supply chain management is their function. The concept of logistics is employed to basically deals with how supplies are used, stored and restored. Logistics exists to keep the balance of marketing and production of goods, products and services offered by certain business firms and establishments. Supply chain management, on the contrary, is a technique that functions by ensuring that everything in business works according to what is being planned and agreed upon by the authorities running the business. More so, the supply chain management sees to it that all concerns about the materials involved in business are addressed and appropriately monitored.
While both are deemed to management techniques, logistics is believed to function under the supply chain management concept since the latter has a wider scope of function.
Until this time, these techniques are still employed since they have proven to be effective in maintaining and improving the status of the business.
