So, recently my brother and I had a heated discussion on the topic above, ‘’Are there any differences between leotards and bathing suits? My brother says the materials used are completely different, but I think the two garments have a distinct fit. Although both garments are used interchangeably, most people are unable to point out the differences between the two garments. Well, read on and learn more on the topic.

A bathing suit is perfectly designed for people to wear when participating in water sports, including diving, surfing, swimming, or water polo. You can also wear a bathing suit when sun bathing at the beach. Additionally, bathing suits are won in beauty contests and during heavy weight body building.

A leotard, on the other hand is a fitting garment that covers the torso, leaving your legs free. They are normally worn by dancers, acrobats, circus performers, and figure skaters just to mention but a few. Leotards come in different styles; others are sleeveless while some are short-sleeved, depending on the buyer’s preference. Although this garment was initially designed for men, professional women acrobats now wear it.

In other words, bathing suits were made for women whereas leotards where designed for males. Bathing suits also come in different styles namely, women’s, men’s and unisex outfits. Another difference between leotards and bathing suits is the material used. Leotards have a distinct fit and are not appropriate for swimming. Additionally, bathing suits are characterized by a bra-like lining, whereas bodysuits and leotards don’t.
In summary:

1. Leotards were designed for men while bathing suits were created for women.

2. Bathing suits are worn at the beach, but leotards are designed for acrobats, figure skaters and dancers.

3. Both garments have distinct material and fit. In other words, they totally have different fabrics that make one suitable for swimming.
