We all show affection to those we love in various ways. Kissing is one of the most commonly used ways of showing affection. This particular act is common in all cultures and we all have different reasons for kissing each other. Smooching is closely linked to kissing and the following are the major differences between them.
Kiss
Generally, kissing occurs when a person presses their lips on another individual’s lips and it is normally linked with romanticism. This means two people who share a kiss ought to be in an already existing romantic relationship. The lip kiss is highly popular and it is what normally a person thinks of when you mention the term kiss.
Furthermore, a kiss may also be given on other areas of the body or an item. The area of the body or face where a kiss is given shows the nature of relationship shared by two people. It also signifies the feelings that the kiss involves. Kisses are also used for greeting in certain countries. Moreover, a forehead kiss is considered as showing affection, while kissing the hands of an old person is a show of respect. In other areas of the world, a kiss acts as a key part of certain rituals, such as when the groom and bride kiss in a wedding.
Smooch
It is true to say smooching is simply a type of kiss. Whereas a kiss may have no sensual or romantic connotations, smooching is linked to romanticism only. In fact, a smooch takes longer as compared to the normal kiss. Smooching is thereby a passionate kiss that involves a larger area of the lips. This makes it very similar to the well liked French kiss.
Lastly, smooch is restricted to lips, while kisses can be placed on other areas of the body besides the lips.
