Difference between Jews and Gentiles

Answer #1

Gentiles and Jews differ in their cultural, traditional and religious aspects. Gentiles worshipped Jehovah, while Jews worshipped God. Nevertheless, it is said that Jews were given the privilege of worshiping God. Meanwhile, Gentiles believed and worshiped Jesus. Furthermore, Jews are thought to have originated from God, whereas Gentiles are not regarded so.

1. Lineage

The term Gentile has some Latin roots, whereas Jew is linked to Hebrew. A gentile in Latin means to belong to a clan or tribe. Hence, gentile is used when referring to the non-Israelite clans in the Bible. Simply put, a gentile is a non-Jew. In contrast, the term Jew is derived from the Hebrew language. Gentiles are regarded as non-Hebrew individuals who are of the same lineage as Abraham. However, Jewish lineage is closely traced to various patriarchs of Jacob, Isaac and Abraham.

2. Religious beliefs

Jews usually do not regard Jesus to be on the same level as God. They believe a Messiah is going to descend down to earth to unite everyone in God’s new Kingdom. They believe their Messiah will unify all humans and bring peace and justice to every person. Interestingly, Gentiles believe almost everything that Jews also believe in. Nowadays, Gentiles are popularly called Christians and this means they strongly believe in Jesus.

3. Spiritual leader

Due to their differences in religious beliefs, it is expected that the two will also differ when talking about spiritual leaders. Jews basically follow Judaism while Christianity is followed by Gentiles. Every Jewish congregation has a Rabbi as the main spiritual leader. In contrast, Christianity usually involves a pastor or priest as the leader of the congregation.

In conclusion, the origin can be used as a way of separating these two religions. In this context, Jews are basically Israel descendants and any other person who is not originally from Israel is regarded as a Gentile.
