There are two major political parties in India; the Indian National Congress and the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). BJP came up in the year 1980. It is the second largest political party in India to date. Traditionally, the party was well known for its efforts to support Indian Nationalism all over the world. BJP was also known to be an activist party in the sense that it supported policies relating to reliance on self, national defence, a capitalistically free market and social conservativeness. They were also pretty much supporting the foreign policies that were spear-headed by agendas of nationalists.
BJP plays a major role in the Indian political scene since their platform is used as the preferred right of center. Initially, it was founded as Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951. But it changed to BJP in 1980 when it came out was a very strong opposition for the congress government. As per now, BJP is the leading opposition party in India though it was the leading party as for two terms until 2004.
On the other hand, Indian Congress was a very first Indian gathering to register the highest number of American Indian tribes at a go. This was between August 4 and October 31 in the year 1898, about ten years after the Indian Wars had taken place. This happened in an area known as Omaha. It took place in collaboration with Trans-Mississippi International Exposition. One of the most memorable members of the Indian Congress was Geronimo who was the chief of the Apache. He is remembered for being a prisoner of war for the United States of America, imprisoned at Fort Sill. The congress was funded by the American government as well as the Bureau of American Ethnology. A total of 500 Indians representing 35 tribes attended the congress.
