CDMA and IDEN are forms of network technology that have their own benefits. IDEN was created by Motorola and it comprises of the abilities of modem and fax facilities as well as two way radios. Conversely, CDMA is achieved through combining FDMA and TDMA techniques to create a new method that is said to a fusion of the aforementioned technologies. Below are other differences between CDMA and IDEN network technology.
1. Operating frequency
CDMA and IDEN differ in the kind of operating frequency. IDEN uses three main bands namely 1500 MHz, 800 MHz and 900 MHz. However, CDMA is utilized with 1900MHz and 800MHz band with a channel bandwidth of 1.25MHz.
2. Data rates
The bandwidth or IDEN is a high 25 kHz that it can use for delivering significantly high data rates of 64kBps for allowing voice transmission. As such, IDEN fully supports 6 simultaneous users on every channel. Unlike IDEN, CDMA provides data rates that reach up to 15.4 kbps on one channel and then 115 kbps when using 8 channels. Moreover, CDM has the ability of offering data rates using the Mbps range that are normally ideal for 3.5G and 3G networks.
3. Technique
A significant difference of CDMA and IDEN lies in the technique used for attaining secure communication. In IDEN, it is attained through using the pseudo noise sequences for all subscribers. This particular technique is called spread spectrum method. However, IDEN handsets generally utilize SIM cards that are apparently inaccessible in GSM handsets and networks. The signaling technique using in IDEN can be said to be just like GSM signaling.
Lastly, CDMA has enabled many users to subscribe to a certain cell and it has also allowed better secured communication. IDEM, however, uses TDMA, while CDMA uses both FDMA and TDMA together enabling more concurrent calls.
