Food is an essential necessity that living things require taking regularly so as to have sufficient amounts of nutrients and also energy to sustain their lives. The ingested food goes through a distinctive process till it becomes energy for being used in the body. This process is performed by the complex digestive system.

A human being’s digestive system comprises of an elongated tube that contains key organs, with varying parts having essential roles in the digestion and also absorption of food. The digestion process begins in the mouth, where food is chewed into small pieces and then it is swallowed. The food passes down to the stomach and there it undergoes softening, which is done before absorption. The enzymes and gastric juices act of various kinds of food. Note that approximately 10 percent of the overall digestion process occurs in an individual’s stomach.

Humans and rats have different digestive systems. For example, humans do not possess a special compartment in their digestive systems since we are regarded like omnivores. This means humans can consume both fruits or vegetables and meat. In effect, all support digestive organs have a unique function that they are supposed to perform within the body.

After looking at the key points concerning human digestion, we can now consider other animals like rats. The major difference lies in the structure or make up of a rat’s digestive system. First of fall, a rat does not possess a gallbladder. The reason for this is that they seldom take in huge amounts of fatty meals, hence making the gallbladder useless. Moreover, this rodent also has a bigger large intestine as compared to humans. This assists the rats better ferment the seeds and grains they consume through the assistance of the internal bacteria. The fermentation process helps to break down cellulose to usable nutrients.
