Education is an essential aspect of life. It is often perceived as “the only treasure that cannot be stolen” from a person. And, it opens one’s mind to new ideas and values that are essential in living a productive life.

As a rule of thumb, the higher the education a person has attained, the better career opportunity and personal success one can have in the future. And two of education’s concluding levels are high school and college, which are related but at the same time different from the other.

One difference between high school and college is that the former is a prerequisite to the latter. With this idea, college is a much higher level of education where one can learn a more specified field of expertise (like in medicine, engineering, arts, etc.) as compared to high school wherein much of the information and experienced learned are considered “basic” or “general” but equally important.

Also, education in high school is generally free and compulsory where as college is quite expensive and voluntary. Students who chose to continue having higher education are investing more time, effort, and money for the purpose of having a secured future, earn more money, a better lifestyle, and much more.

On one hand, high school students have less freedom and learning is “spoon fed” to some extent. On the other hand, college students are given freedom to choose their subjects and manage their own time. Learning in college will depend on the amount of effort and time exerted by the student in studying and reading lecture materials on one’s own.

In high school, the students acquire a variety of knowledge, skills, facts, and values. And in college, all these “set of learning” are put into work. College students are expected to be more responsible for their own thoughts, decisions, and actions, which is why it is important to have a strong foundation in the lower levels of education before one can go to college.
