If you have a problem distinguishing between has and have, this article will explain to you in detail how this simple words are used in a sentence. Therefore, there is no need for you to worry if you think you are not conversant with grammar .

For starters, these simple words are known as verbs – words that describe a state, action or occurrence and are part of a sentence, for example happen, become and hear. As a rule of thumb, ‘has’ is only used in a sentence as a singular verb. Interestingly, you will notice that ‘have’ is used more frequently than ‘has’ simply because it has singular forms in the first and second person.

For example:

The singular form of the verb ‘’have’’: I have what I need to complete my assignment. (First person)
The verb ‘’have’’ used in another style: You have what I need to complete the assignment. (Second person)
As shown above, the verb ‘’have’’ is frequently used, because the ‘You’ and ‘I’ pronouns are followed by ‘’have’’. In simple terms, the verb ‘has’ is only suitable when referring to a third person.

For example:

When describing the third person in singular form: She has a cheerful personality.

However, the verb ‘have’ is only used in plural form. Regardless of whether you are referring to the first or second person, the verb ‘have’ can be used.

For example:

You can use plural form to describe the first person: Currently we have all the requirements for the job.
Alternatively you can use the same sentence when referring to the second person: You have all the requirements for the job.

When mentioning the third person in plural form: They have an idea of what you meant.

In conclusion, you should use the verb has in a singular form and ‘have’ in plural form.
