Difference between Guitar Amp and Bass Amp

The development and rise of stage performances in the 30’s saw the creation of amplifiers. It is interesting that the first amplifiers were not created to be utilized together with guitars. However, after some time, Hawaiian music popularized the extensive use of amps in guitars.

1. Guitar amp

A guitar amp is specifically created to make the guitar sounds much louder. The musical signals are delivered by loudspeakers. This also assists in altering the tone through accentuating the sound waves frequency and mixing them with electronic effects. In general, most guitarists prefer the guitar amplifiers that were created in the late 50’s. The reason is that old amplifiers were made in such a way that they produced a better acoustic sound.

2. Bass amp

A bass amp is meant for mainly producing a bass response. They also have a wide range of tone controls that the bass guitarist can adjust. The top bass amps usually include some restricted compressor features that assist in keeping the distorting at high levels of volume. This particular instrument also comes with the special feature that patches bass signals to the main mixing board. Furthermore, bass amps tend to get heated up quickly and thus external fans or heat sinks are usually added to cool the amplifier.

These two amplifiers continue to evolve to create louder music that has better tone and controls. Stage performances now have more depth and finer tune due to highly innovative amps. Guitar amps change the tone of the music through de-emphasizing or emphasizing the sound waves frequency. They also infuse the sound together with electronic effects. In contrast, bass amps are designed to produce a bass response. The other difference is the fact that one amp gets heated quicker than the other. In this respect, bass amps heat up more quickly than guitar amps.
