Aside from the debate as to whether either actually exists, there is often a little confusion as to what constitutes a demon as opposed to a ghost. Well, if myth and legend are to be believed, ghosts are a spiritual presence or entity which originates from a dead human, whereas demons are traditionally thought to be fallen angels. Quite simply, ghosts are said to originate from Earth, whereas demons derive from another plain altogether and may therefore possess abilities and powers far out of the reach of an Earthly presence.
Stories of ghosts and demons have been around since the earliest records of mankind’s existence, provoking imagination, wonder and, of course, fear in millions of us the world over. Everybody has their own particular idea about the characteristics likely to be possessed by a demon or ghost and therefore everybody holds the subject with different regard.
For example, there are those that believe ghosts to be nothing more than the most beautiful idea imaginable, reveling in the idea there may be more to life than is currently known. The presence of ghosts would signal the existence of the paranormal, therefore increasing the possibility of an afterlife beyond refute. Of course, there are those that find the whole subject simply terrifying!
Demons, on the other hand, are generally thought of as malevolent entities offering no positives to man, simply bearing misery and evil. The word ‘demon’ itself has been adopted by man to describe negative traits and conditions associated with health and personality. For example, facing one’s inner demons is a well known phrase who’s origins are seldom questioned.
In the end, should either entity exist it is likely that ghosts would appear the safer of the two, as they are fabled to carry no inherent evil or negativity, whereas demons have been used for centuries as the manifestation of evil and wrongdoing.
