Heroin and fentanyl are two drugs that are highly addictive. The obvious disparity between these drugs is that heroin is normally considered as illegal and thus smuggling or keeping it could result in serious consequences. Here are more details about the two drugs.
1. Fentanyl
Fentanyl is used like a sedative and a pain killer in medicine. It is more potent as compared to morphine, which means it is more efficient. In fact, fentanyl is ten times more potent than morphine. Its action normally starts quickly and recovery is also quick.
Fentanyl is generally used in endoscopic procedures and surgeries. During cancer treatment, the doctor can also prescribe it like a form of pain killer. In most instances, fentanyl is used together with some other benzodiazepines.
This particular drug has numerous adverse effects. Actually, it can cause respiratory arrest and kill an individual if overdosed. Other adverse effects include vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea and confusion. Fentanyl also causes addiction if used over a long period.
Manufacturing Fentanyl requires a license from the appropriate authorities. Additionally, the medication is only accessible from a drug store with a doctor’s prescription.
2. Heroin
The term heroin refers to a drug called diamorphine. Diamorphine and morphine are two opioid medications used in the field of medicine. When this drug is illegally acquired and used, it is called HEROIN.
Manufacturing heroin without a license or using it without prescription is also considered illegal. In most countries, the act of smuggling and selling heroin is viewed as a very serious offence. In some cases, the criminals are even handed the death sentence.
In short, many people get confused with the two drugs as they are normally abused together. This happens when heroin of low quality is mixed together with fentanyl so as to enhance the efficacy of the drug.
