Difference between Fate and Free Will

Free will and fate have been talked about for a very long. Interestingly, most celebrated people in psychology and science have also participated in this discussion. However, the question still remains whether it is actually free will or fate that governs the course that a person takes.

A person displays free will in his actions and thus he or she has a say on his fate. There is a similar debate in physics where a theory asserts that atoms rely on physical law. This implies that whichever action any atom does within its life, it simply requires doing it. However, if a person decides to move his or her arm, is this saying that atoms have free will? This is not true since the person decides to move atoms in her arms through making a choice and thus exhibiting free will.

From a psychological point of view, there is a concept of confident, that has an important role in how people believe in their actions. It is true that when you remove the beliefs of a person so as to control that environment, it is going to affect that person’s confidence. If this occurs, that person would simply learn about being helpless and then believe that his suffering was caused by fate. Modern psychology refers to this condition like learned helplessness. This is when a person loses free will or control of a certain situation due to fate or several adverse events.

Based on the arguments that have been brought forward on the issue, free will and fate are two different things. For example, free will is responsible for controlling the course of an individual’s life. If that individual even loses that free will, then he or she is left to fate, which can be quite unforgiving. Losing free will therefore translates into being helpless with fate.
