The English language is basically comprised of both simple and complex words. Among the numerous words that are often used, some find it inevitable to use one word to mean for another. For instance the words, fact and opinion. For most individuals, these two pertains to only one and the same thing. However, looking on to the words in depth, it can be realized that such words bear significant differences from one another.

One of the basic differences between a fact and an opinion is their nature. In the natural sense of the words, facts are based on truths with proofs and evidences while opinions do not a have a firm basis for it to be considered as true, valid and correct. This can be supported by the characteristics they possess. While facts are characterized by objectivity, opinion is basically driven by personal drives such as emotions and instinct.

More so, facts are the major components of reality whereas opinion may or may not bear any sense at all. In this light, it can be implied that opinions are only a matter of choice while fact is within the context of credibility.
Therefore, opinions vary from one person to another while facts are established truths based on beliefs and concepts that are accepted by the majority.

One important difference between facts and opinions is period of existence. Facts are considered as strong statements thereby permitting them to exist and be referred to for the longest time and can be changed only until another related fact is established. Opinions, however, are merely the expression of one’s thoughts and can be subject to biases.

In conclusion, facts are important statements that can greatly influence people. Opinions, however, are quite unnecessary especially in decision making are highly involved.
