The English language is one widely recognized speech that is evidently in abundance of words. Derived from a variety of languages that existed prior to the discovery of such language, many words have gradually emerged from the time it has sprouted up until this modern day and time. However, due to the limitless innovation of words that pound up the pages of the dictionaries, many people have become confused of the many words, some of which are bearing seemingly similar definitions, usage and effects on sentences. Included among words that somehow impose some confusion are “expect” and ”wait”.

These words bear disparity in definition despite the fact that each bears an easily comprehensible meaning. The term, Wait, is basically defined as the act of letting time pass by, which can either be because of delay or due to advanced perception of time. The word, Expect, on the other hand, is one term that is highly indicative of highly looking forward to an event or a circumstance.

Apart from bearing discretion in meaning, the words, Expect and Wait, share discrepancy in terms of implications. Using the term, wait, highly implies that there are circumstances which are either expected or not anticipated to happen. Waiting therefore, can be implied when schedules are happening in an untimely manner. Using expect in sentences, however, is one hint that things are bound to happen in the most timely and appropriate manner.

More so, expect allows individuals to understand that no time is wasted as things are destined to occur whereas the term, wait, can somehow facilitate wastage of time, as things may or may not occur.

Using seemingly similar words has evidently posed confusion. Thus, knowing the line of difference between the two can aid in using such words appropriately.
