The eagle is better known as contrasted to the hawk. This means that many people are proficient about eagles as compared to hawks. Since the two birds are quite similar, it is hard to easily pinpoint the differences simply through looking at the birds from a distance. Enlighten yourself by reading the following differences between hawks and eagles.

1. Size

The simplest method that experts recommend when differentiating these two birds is through considering their size. In general, eagles are lager birds in contrast with hawks. Nevertheless, even when using this particular assumption, most people still have a hard time telling these two birds apart. In fact, there are some hawks like the red-tailed ones that are bigger than some eagles.

2. Power

Aside from the size, the next apparent property that you should consider is power. Eagles are essentially more powerful as compared to hawks. The large size of an eagle’s wings is viewed like a living testimonial of their sheer supremacy. Actually, large eagles are believed to have a wide wingspan of 8 feet long. In contrast, hawks only have a maximum length of approximately 5 feet.

3. Taxonomic order

It is essentially safe to consider that these birds belong to one family since there is still no comprehensible taxonomic differentiation between these two. It is therefore essential to master the looks and overall appearance of certain hawks and eagles that show their differentiating physical traits. In this regard, both birds are classified in one taxonomic order called accipirtriformes, while eagles may also be classified in another branch known as falconiformes.

In conclusion, eagles are much larger when compared against hawks. Because of their large size, eagles also have larger wings and some can reach 8 feet in length. The larger wings help provide them more power. Meanwhile, eagles are less powerful as they have smaller wings.
