The executive director and director are the most highly respected posts in any company. The CEO of a company is also known as the director. Any time a business is starting up, this particular post is occupied by the business founder. The roles of the director differ from the executive director and this article will explain further.
1. Function
As earlier stated, the executive director is in charge of creating the business while directors are hired once the business has already started. Hence, an executive director will work to make certain that the business attains all its objectives. This work will be done by overseeing the operations as well as offering leadership.
2. Skills
A director has lesser knowledge and experience than the executive director. Such a person is normally an outsider who has little technological expertise with regards to the business. In contrast, the executive director works like a team leader and therefore has immense knowledge in several areas. This person advises board members and oversees the organization including areas like marketing, product quality and design.
3. Employer type
The executive director is employed by the business and thus works hard to prove his value. He recommends a budget for the business and uses the available resources to enhance the company. He also makes sure that all regulations and rules are obeyed. Since he is very concerned about how the company is being viewed by the public, he also indulges in public relations. Conversely, a director may not necessarily be the worker of that business and is generally self-employed. He ensures the best business practices will be used and that the stakeholders’ interests are looked after.
In short, the director is the overall supervisor and is therefore not involved in daily business operations. However, the executive director works daily to make certain that the business attains great profits.
