Mitosis and also cytokinesis are parts of plant and animal cell division. Mitosis is the procedure through which duplicate genomes in plant cells are separated into two identical halves. In contrast, cytokinesis occurs during the creation of daughter cells following the division of the cell cytoplasm.

The mitosis process occurs in 3 main phrases and cytokinesis is actually the last phase. Cytokinesis takes places through two processes. During this process, the cell cytoplasm breaks down into two, resulting in the creation of two cells that each has a nucleus. Besides the nucleus, cytokinesis also ensures that cellular organelles are passed equally amongst the cells.

Remember that even when mitosis is completed, there still remain two nuclei that are still together in one cell. It is only in cytokines that such a cell will physically separate into two. This will provide two different cells, with each having their own nucleus.

The reason behind mitosis is the great need for cells to regenerate and grow. Mitosis is basically the continuation and propagation of living things. Nevertheless, this process differs in plants and animals. In contrast, cytokinesis takes places to ensure that chromosome numbers is maintained amongst the generations.

These two processes normally take place alongside each other. Nevertheless, there are cases where cytokinesis and also mitosis occur differently, which causes the creation of single celled organisms or those with multiple nuclei. A good example of this is amongst fungi and moulds.

Mitosis is an essential component of cell development. In fact, any errors during mitosis can either kill the cell or result in cancer development.
