Both Aldiko Free and Premium are e-book applications downloadable onto a mobile phone. They are running under the Android system of operation and allow e-books, a much more cost effective alternative to actual books, to be downloaded and read on a mobile phone.
Aldiko Free, a good way of trying out the application before making a purchase, can be used to download and view free e-books, articles and magazines. It doesn’t have copy protection and the user is thus unable to download any copy protected files. As well as featuring free ads from sponsors (this pays for the license, enabling others to use it without having to pay; however, at the very best these ads can prove to be intensely irritating), it is also slightly smaller than the full, licensed Premium version.
Aldiko Premium is a few MB larger than the free version, partly due to the fact that it includes features such as copy protection (which will allow the user to install copy protected e-books, articles and magazines once they have been legally purchased). This paid for version also provides extra storage space of one MB.
The differences between the Free and Premium versions are such that although the free version is a good way of trying out preferences and functionality of this application before a purchase is made, it is smaller than the paid for version and the range of e-books and so on is not as varied, as copy protected files cannot be downloaded and installed. In addition, the free version features annoying sponsor ads, which are no longer present in the premium version. Aldiko Premium thus provides greater enjoyment through a broader range of reading material, the ability to download larger files due to the added storage space and freedom from the pain of flashing ads.
