In learning Spanish, the terms “para” and “por” maybe confusing because they are translated the in English in a similar way, and that is “for”. However, “para” and “por” are terms that are not to be confused with each other as they denote different meanings when used in a sentence. And between the two, “por” has more meanings than “para” which may pose some problems at first.

On one hand, the Spanish word “para” may be used in ways conveying meanings as:

specifying a destination

“in order to” or “for the purpose of”

disparity from what is anticipated

presenting the purpose or use of an object

definite time or a form of deadline, target or goal

telling who the receiver or recipient within a sentence

an act that will soon be accomplished. Also applied with the use of “estar” at the beginning

On the other hand, the Spanish word “por” may be used in ways such as:

expressing an admission of guilt or appreciation

signifying frequency, velocity, and proportion

indicating division or multiplication

conveying the context “in the area of”, “along”, “through”, or “by”

expression of time may be in its general sense, its length, or an undetermined period of time

conveying an action of exchanging things like in sales

conveying sense of transportation or communication

may mean “in favor of” or “on behalf of”

expressing reason or cause

as applied in passive constructions

tell the meaning of “to be seen as” or as used in cases of mistaken identity

Expressing an action which is followed by an infinitive word

showing reason for an errand when paired with other Spanish words like “pasar”, “volver”, “venir”, “preguntar”, “ir”, and “mandar”

meaning to “be in the mood” or “leaning to do something” when partnered with another Spanish word “estar” before it

por means u no in spanch class you use that word in almost evey thing take spainch class
